Yiannikou Dental Polyclinic: Dental treatment in Cyprus

Yiannikou dental polyclinic logo
The Yiannikou Dental Polyclinic provides a wide spectrum of dental treatment in Cyprus and prevention based on the highest standards of dental care.

Dr. Anna-Maria Yiannikou is one of the pioneers in the field of dental lasers. The clinic uses lasers to find, diagnose and treat early and difficult to detect decay problems, for soft tissue procedures, curing of restorative materials, tooth whitening or removing diseased tooth structure and gingival tissue. The benefits include the treatment of patients without administering anaesthetic and not having to use a drill. With the help of the soft tissue lasers there is no bleeding during procedures.

The dental clinic specialises in using air abrasion technology instead of a drill for removing tooth decay. This system allows decay to be treated at an earlier stage and without removal of a lot of healthy tooth material, thereby helping to preserve the strength of the tooth. The procedure is absolutely painless and fillings can be replaced faster and in fewer visits.

They would love to have you as a patient, whether you need a full mouth reconstruction or routine dental care.

The polyclinic operates a research centre with the aim of developing dental science. It is the franchise of the AALZ (Aachen Laser Research Centre), a world-wide centre with partners who are very famous professors.

Latest dental technology and state-of-the-art equipment

  • Lasers are high-technology instruments that generate a beam of concentrated light. This beam of light concentrates energy to the patient’s mouth and is used to find, diagnose and treat early and difficult to detect decay problems, or for soft tissues procedures, curing of restorative materials, achieving tooth whitening or removing diseased tooth structure and gingival tissue. The benefits include the treatment of patients without administering anaesthetic and not having to use a drill.
  • An Intraoral Camera is a tiny camera that can be inserted into the patient’s mouth, taking pictures of the teeth and displaying the images on a computer screen or on the TV screen
  • Air abrasion is a new alternative technique to using the drill for fillings. It is a gentle spray of an air and powder mix that removes tooth decay and creates a cavity surface that is ideal for use with composite fillings. The procedure is absolutely painless and fillings can be replaced faster and in fewer visits.
  • A dental digital X-ray (radiography) system can take a picture of your teeth and display it immediately on a computer monitor while you are in the dental chair. You no longer have to wait for an x-ray film to develop. Because the dental digital x-ray system is more sensitive than dental x-ray film systems, your exposure to x-rays is cut by as much as 90 percent.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain Veneers are very thin semi-translucent shells of porcelain that are permanently bonded to your teeth. They are a cosmetic alternative for a variety of dental conditions such as diastemas (spaces between teeth), broken or chipped teeth, stained fillings, stained or discolored teeth due to coffee drinking, smoking and age and misshapen teeth

Inlay – Onlay
An inlay is a restoration that fits within a cusp of a tooth, whereas an onlay is a restoration that replaces a cusp or cusps of a tooth. Both are made of metal or porcelain in a laboratory. They are usually cemented or bonded into place and they restore portions of a tooth that might be fixed instead with amalgam (silver) or tooth-colored filling material.

Prosthetics

Crowns
Dental crowns cover the entire visible surface of your affected teeth that are no longer structurally sound, adding strength, durability and tooth stability. Prime candidates are teeth with root canals, cracking or broken teeth, teeth with large fillings or worn out teeth due to teeth grinding or age. Crowns are made of ceramic, ceramic with Zirconium Oxide or metal-ceramic.

Dental bridge
A dental bridge is a fixed restoration that is needed to be made when there is at least one tooth missing. The teeth that are on either side of the space are called abutment and the false crown that is in the place of the missing tooth is called pontic and is permanently attached to the abutment. Larger dental bridges can be prepared depending on the number of the teeth that are missing and on the teeth that are going to be used as abutment.

Root canal treatment

  • 1st appointment - The infected tissue is removed, the canal is sterilised with laser and a temporary filling is placed to protect the tooth.
  • 2nd appointment - After removing the temporary filling, the root canals are cleaned again, dried, sterilised with the laser and filled with a temporary material.
  • 3rd appointment - If there are no symptoms of pain, the root canals are sealed with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha, a temporary filling is placed again until the final restoration of the tooth is placed (crown and a post).

Dental implants

A dental implant is an appliance used to replace the roots of teeth. The implant is surgically attached to the jaw bone and an artificial tooth is attached to the top of the implant, creating a natural looking, undetectable replacement for the missing tooth. If several teeth are missing, several implants may provide a base for a series of artificial teeth known as a fixed bridge. Implants can even be used to secure a full set of removable dentures for people who have no remaining natural teeth. This can greatly improve chewing ability and reduce the risk of choking.

Dentures

A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and adjacent supportive tissues. It is made of acrylic resin, sometimes in combination with various metals. Complete dentures replace all the teeth, while a partial denture fills in spaces created by missing teeth and prevents other teeth from changing position.
