(Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority) standards of the UK, one of the strictest quality control protocols in the world.

A UK qualified fertility specialist

In 2006, Dr Andreas Mavrides, a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, returned to Cyprus after 16 years working at the best hospitals and fertility units in the UK. Upon his return he founded ISIS, a specialist private medical company for constructing, taking over, and running boutique-style medical centres. His lifelong dream was to bring to the region the very best in care for women, both for local and pan-European patients, combining the very best in doctor care and state-of-the-art technologyDr Anastasiou, an already established gynaecologist in Cyprus, as well as Dr Fasouliotis, a fertility specialist who has worked in Israel and the USA, soon joined ISIS to make a strong medical team. ISIS Clinic's first project in Nicosia, Cyprus, was completed in early 2009 after three years of planning and construction. It involved taking over an existing maternity clinic and completely renovating it to meet all European hospital standards. The project was meticulously designed and executed to the finest detail to deliver a much needed change in regional health care. Top-quality construction and equipment, as well as recruitment of the finest staff, including doctors, nurses, embryologists, and midwives make ISIS Clinic now the most modern and state-of-the-art gynaecologymaternity, and fertility centre in Cyprus, offering one of the best success rates in fertilityISIS Clinic offers a contemporary approach to surgery and maternity care, leading to the best outcome and maximum patient satisfaction.

Egg donation

ISIS Clinic have an extremely efficient egg donation program with pregnancy rates of more than 50%. The donors are screened extensively for genetic abnormalities and various infections. ISIS Clinic allocates at least 7-8 eggs per recipient. After the embryo transfer, any spare embryos still belong to the recipient and are frozen so that they can used at a later stage in case of an unsuccessful result or following a birth for genetic siblings.

Waiting time is only a few weeks.

Sperm donation

The increase in sperm problems is a global phenomenon and in some cases we are unable to extract any sperm from the ejaculate or the testes. ISIS Clinic have a wide variety of anonymously-banked sperm (imported from reliable sperm banks) for patients to choose from. The donors' characteristics are listed to help with the selection of the sperm. Testing is performed in the same way as for egg donors; the sample is quarantined for six months and the donors re-tested to ensure the maximum safety of the sample.

Other infertility services in Cyprus

IVF

Following ISIS Clinic's investigations and treatments, they offer in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) for couples unable to conceive naturally. This involves taking injections for stimulation of the ovaries, an egg collection procedure which is performed adjacent to the laboratory, and using sperm to fertilise the eggs. Success rates are in the order of 45-50% in the group of women under the age of 38. Click here to read more about IVF treatment at ISIS Clinic.

ICSI

In cases where the sperm quality is not suitable for standard IVF treatment, fertilisation can be performed by using the technique of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). In this case one sperm is injected into each egg using a high-powered microscope and special electronically controlled sperm and egg manipulators.

Egg freezing

One of the biggest problems in the past has been the inability to freeze eggs due to the poor survival rate. Today, by using the latest techniques, ISIS Clinic is able to freeze eggs for future use. Survival rates are in excess of 60%, and storage can extend for up to 10 years.

Pre-implatation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)

Couples with specific genetic conditions, the most common of which in Cyprus is both potential parents being carriers of thalassaemia, may choose to undergo analysis of the embryos before these are transferred to the woman and thus eliminating the chances of carrying an affected child. Click here to read more about PGD at ISIS Clinic.

Embryo freezing

ISIS Clinic uses the latest technology and techniques of vitrification which offers excellent survival rates for embryo and egg freezing. They have a strict quality control selection process regarding which embryos to freeze in order to offer the best possible results for transferred frozen embryosClick here to read more about embryo freezing.

IUI

In cases where the sperm and tubes are healthy, ISIS Clinic can offer intrauterine insemination (IUI).  Basically, this is preparing the sperm sample and selecting the fastest swimming sperm and concentration, and inserting it inside the uterus. The procedure can be performed in a natural cycle or a low dose of injections can be used to produce more than one egg in order to improve the chances of success to about 15-20% per cycle.

TESA

In the most severe cases of sperm problems, where no sperm can be found in the sample, ISIS Clinic are using the technique of Testicular Sperm Aspiration or Extraction (TESA or TESE). Under a general anaesthetic, the sperm is taken directly from the testicle and ISIS Clinic embryologists will extract the sperm from the sample using specialised techniques.

Facilities at the fertlility clinic

Construction

All the fittings, equipment, and electromechanical structures were stripped off and a complete renovation took place with state-of-the art materials, medical gases, and equipment. The areas were restructured to make them ergonomically efficient, and an IVF unit was also constructed as an autonomous unit with its own separate clinical areas.

Outpatients

The outpatient area is of a contemporary design with an extremely efficient multi-station reception and three doctors’ offices with private examination rooms, a nurse’s clinical station for antenatal patient check-ups, and the accounts department.

Theatres

There are two fully-equipped theatres utilising the latest technology in operating tables, operating lighting, anaesthesia stations, and monitoring. One of the theatre rooms is custom-built for laparoscopic work, one of the clinic's strongest assets. ISIS Clinic has three nurses that are dedicated full-time to theatres and who possess vast experience in the field of maternity and laparoscopic work

Labour rooms

ISIS Clinic houses two fully-equipped private spacious labour rooms with private bathrooms and WC. All the walls and doors are soundproofed and there is a neonatal resuscitating station for the delivery of the baby. Should there be a neonatal emergency, this station is fully loaded with all the resuscitation equipment, including a ventilator for use by the paediatrician who is always present in the room during a delivery. The labour rooms are located opposite the main theatres and are always set-up and standing by for an emergency delivery procedure.

Nursery

At ISIS Clinic they take security and safety extremely seriously and have installed a security-card system that restricts access to all areas, especially the nursery. The nursery is a spacious area with a position for the neonatal electronic incubator as well as a paediatrician’s examination worktop and bathing facilities for the neonates.

Patient rooms

The in-patients ward is on the second floor, free of any interference from clinical operations. There are two types of rooms; the luxury single room - a spacious room with a private bathroom, and a suite which has a private sitting area separate from the patient's room and bathroom. There are 4 channels connected to the nursery, enabling patients to take a close-up view of their newborns while in their room.
